The ills of the world in a chocolate bar.

As I was browsing the student union shop I noticed a forlorn pile of little red slabs with a garish graphic slapped on one corner. Upon closer inspection they turned out to be Kit Kats.

The fall from grace of the Kit Kat in my mind came when they abandoned the classic foil and paper wrapping. It was iconic, simple and significant pleasure could be derived from the foil itself. I loved Kit Kats. A cold winters night on a train station platform could have no greater accompaniement than a warm cup of coffee and a Kit Kat.

But then they went and spoiled it all by doing something stupid like repackaging it. Out went the foil/ paper model and in came the plasticised foil for ‘freshness’. I never bought a Kit Kat for its authentic fresh from the factory deliciousness, I bought it because it was tasty even after three years in a dingy corner shop back room and its packaging.

Now I’m a fair man, I gave the new Kit Kat a fair shake but it had lost its joy. I moved on to more beguiling delectations such as the Mars Bar (open with one hand, eat off all the chocolate, then the caramel, then the nougat). Confectionary isn’t fun unless its a challenging diversion. The Kit Kat was dead to me.

Wow, I have a blog.
